GTA 6 Release Date, Price & Pre-Order — Here’s What’s Actually Confirmed

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 — PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar confirmed it, Take-Two’s CEO has repeated it on three separate earnings calls, and their entire $8 billion revenue forecast for this fiscal year is built around that date. At this point, the game has a harder commitment attached to it than most things in life.

Pre-orders are open, the price is confirmed, and Rockstar just dropped 27 minutes of real gameplay through Netflix. Here’s everything worth knowing before November.

A lot of people don’t realize GTA 6 was supposed to come out way earlier. Here’s exactly how the timeline played out:

December 2023 — Rockstar drops Trailer 1. Confirms a “2025” release window. That’s it — just “2025,” no specific date.

May 2, 2025 — First delay. Rockstar announces the game won’t make Fall 2025. New date: May 26, 2026. The statement used the standard “we need more time to deliver at the level of quality you expect” language. What made it sting less — Rockstar dropped Trailer 2 the same day. 69 million YouTube views in 24 hours. Hard to stay mad when the footage actually looks that good.

November 6, 2025 — Second delay. This one hurt more. Just minutes before Take-Two’s quarterly earnings call, Rockstar announced another six-month push — from May 26 all the way to November 19, 2026. Take-Two’s stock dropped 7–10% within minutes. For context, that’s a massive company losing serious market value in one afternoon. Rockstar issued a direct apology in the announcement — which is genuinely unusual for them. They almost never do that.

Now (August 2026) — Pre-orders are open, the Netflix gameplay reveal has happened, and Take-Two just reaffirmed November 19 in their August 7 fiscal report. The marketing machine is fully running. A third delay at this point would be almost unheard of.

What was the “original” GTA 6 release date? Technically, Rockstar never committed to a specific 2025 date — just the year. The first real calendar date they ever put on this game was May 26, 2026. Anyone saying “it was supposed to come out on X date in 2025” is filling in a blank that Rockstar intentionally left open.

PC players: Nothing announced yet. Rockstar’s pattern with GTA 5 was console first (2013), then PC two years later (2015). Expect something similar — but right now it’s console-only and that’s official.

GTA 6 Price — This Is Where It Stings a Little

Rockstar priced this in line with where premium AAA games are heading now:

  • Standard Edition — $79.99
  • Ultimate Edition — $99.99

The $80 standard price is the new normal across big-budget games. Not shocking, but still a jump from the $60 era most people grew up with.

One thing worth knowing: you don’t have to decide on Ultimate Edition right now. Rockstar confirmed you can upgrade from Standard to Ultimate at any point — even after launch. So if you’re on the fence about spending an extra $20, just buy Standard and upgrade later if the extra content looks worth it once you’re actually playing.

Regional pricing for UK, India, and other markets hasn’t been officially published. Based on how Take-Two handled Borderlands 4 (from their 2K label), the pattern was roughly USD matching GBP 1:1, with Euros running about €10 higher. Not a guarantee for GTA 6, but the best available signal right now.

Pre-Order Bonuses — What You Actually Get

Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 across PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and retail stores. They’re live right now.

Every pre-order — Standard or Ultimate — gets the Vintage Vice City Pack. And here’s the thing: it’s not strictly pre-order only. Anyone who buys the game digitally before November 20, 2026 (the day after launch) also gets it. Physical pre-orders get it while supplies last.

What’s inside the Vintage Vice City Pack:

  • ’55 Vapid Stanier + Shore Court Garage — A classic two-tone sedan from the Vice City era, stored in a personal garage right by Ocean Beach. The garage has a weapon locker and a fence drop-off spot for stolen goods
  • Retro outfits for Jason and Lucia — Think pastel linen suit for Jason, red sequin mini dress for Lucia. Full ’80s Vice City energy
  • Tropical weapon pattern — Inspired by Tommy Vercetti’s iconic palm tree shirt from the original Vice City. Applies to most guns in the game

Digital pre-orders also come with one free month of GTA+ for current GTA Online.

Preload starts November 12 — a full week before launch. If you’ve got a slow connection or just don’t want to deal with a massive download on launch night, this is the reason to go digital or redeem your physical code early.

Ultimate Edition — Is the Extra $20 Worth It?

The Ultimate Edition adds content on top of everything in Standard. Here’s what you’re actually getting for $99.99:

  • ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy + Paradise Garage — Off-road monster built for Mount Kalaga’s backwoods. Stored in Watson Bay, comes with weapon locker
  • ’95 Grotti Cheetah — The premium sports car in the package
  • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers — Matching revolvers for Jason and Lucia
  • Exclusive outfits and clothing for both characters throughout the story
  • Access to exclusive in-game businesses — including Rideout Customs vehicle shop and other vendors

One important detail: the Ultimate Edition content doesn’t dump everything on you at once. It unlocks progressively through the story, chapter by chapter. It’s designed to enhance the playthrough, not front-load a loot screen.

Rockstar’s full itemized breakdown is on their official editions page.

The Physical Copy Situation — No Disc in the Box

Grand Theft Auto 6 physical retail box opened to show a digital download code token instead of a Blu-ray disc

This caught a lot of people off guard when it was announced.

If you walk into GameStop and buy a physical copy of GTA 6, you open the box and find — a digital download code. No Blu-ray disc. You still have to download the entire game over your internet connection regardless of whether you bought it at a store or digitally online.

The box exists. The game doesn’t come on a disc inside it.

Rockstar didn’t give a detailed public explanation. The working theory is spoiler and leak prevention — keeping game files physically inaccessible until launch. GTA 6 leaks have been a real ongoing issue throughout development, so it tracks.

Practically speaking:

  • Physical buyers can still preload starting November 12 by redeeming the box code early
  • You won’t be behind on launch day compared to digital buyers
  • If resale or offline play via disc matters to you — that option just doesn’t exist with GTA 6

The Netflix Extended Look — 27 Minutes of Real Gameplay

Grand Theft Auto 6 official 27 minute gameplay reveal screenshot showing a heist action scene with Jason and Lucia

On August 27, 2026, Rockstar dropped “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” — nearly 27 minutes of actual PS5 gameplay footage, partnered exclusively with Netflix for the first 6 hours before going free on YouTube.

Two trailers in three years. This was the first time anyone actually saw the game being played.

What the Extended Look actually showed:

  • Jason and Lucia starting in a drug deal that goes sideways — full gunfight, early look at shooting mechanics
  • A slow-motion targeting ability that showed up during the firefight — think a toned-down Dead Eye from Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Seamless character switching between Jason and Lucia during gameplay
  • A wanted system with real consequences — stay on the run for three in-game days and your character starts visibly deteriorating (dirty clothes, rougher appearance). The world remembers
  • In-game social media confirmed working — you can make things go viral inside the game’s own platform. This was theorized since Trailer 1, now it’s official
  • The scale of Leonida — Vice City plus surrounding areas that make GTA 5’s Los Santos look contained

It’s currently free on Rockstar’s YouTube if you missed it. Worth the 27 minutes.

If you’re curious about the actual AI and NPC systems Rockstar built to make Leonida feel alive, we dug into that separately — this piece on GTA 6’s AI features covers what Rockstar has confirmed on that front.

Will GTA 6 Get Delayed Again?

Two delays will do that to people’s trust. Right now though — nothing is pointing that way.

Look at where things stand on August 29 — 82 days from launch:

  • Pre-orders have been open for two months
  • Physical production is underway (boxes with download codes exist and are being manufactured)
  • The marketing campaign launched in summer and is actively running
  • Take-Two’s August 7 fiscal results explicitly named November 19 with $8 billion in projected bookings attached to it

A third delay at this stage would be genuinely unprecedented even for Rockstar. That said — they’ve surprised people before. The only place a delay would officially appear is Rockstar’s Newswire. Everything else is speculation until it’s there.

GTA 5 came out in September 2013. It was still the 7th best-selling game in the US in 2021 — eight years after launch. That’s the bar Rockstar set for themselves, and also why this game has taken 13 years to make.

November 19. 82 days.

If you’re killing time until then, we covered Valve’s Steam Machine pricing — because hardware decisions before a big launch actually matter. And if you haven’t read our breakdown of what Rockstar confirmed about GTA 6’s AI systems, that’s worth 10 minutes — it explains why the NPC behavior in the Extended Look looked nothing like GTA 5.
